This is where I spend most of my day. Cleaning off pb&j crumbs. Rinsing out curdled milk from a forgotten sippy cup. Washing and prepping veggies that just get thrown on the floor. Mulling over whether the discipline I had just dished out was fair. Cleaning things just so they can get dirty again. Days like today remind me that parenting can be messy and not very pretty or share-worthy. I need to remember that there is beauty in the mundane, and not just the mundane but also the ugly. That there is beauty in the ugly. That honesty with myself and with others trumps nice and tidy appearances. That the hope of tomorrow and a clean slate can get me through the rest of today.
