Decor ideas for boys’ rooms

Parents of little boys often bemoan the fact that decor and fashion offered limited, stereotyped options. However, a bit of sleuthing will yield clever room ideas that go above and beyond planes, trains, and automobiles.  Bypass big-box stores and glean inspiration from these not-so-common sources:

1. Aptly-named Huset is a design destination for those searching for modern touches to their home. Huset means “house” in Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian, and Scandinavian decor pieces for children are no less impressive than their grown-up counterparts. Their online store boasts an impressive array of furniture, artwork, and toys that you won’t mind left out when company comes over.

The Switches and Gauges Poster from Our Childrens Gorilla measures at 46″ x 68″, generously covering an entire wall and creating a focal point.

The Animal Tower WallSticker from Ferm Living is a fun, creative spin on the ubiquitous growth chart.

These Mr. Small and Mr. Large pillows, also from Ferm Living, are perfect for the tween years.

2. Kids modern is another kid-centric online store with an emphasis on minimalist modern pieces.

The Martina loft bed from Italian brand dearkids is a streamlined bunk bed that features a staircase storage unit and clean lines.

Carpet tiles like this puzzle carpet set are a sophisticated take on interlocking play mats and make spot cleaning a snap. FLOR, a perennial favorite product among design experts, offers carpet tiles in a wide range of colors, textures, and patterns.

Take every opportunity to infuse whimsy and creativity into your child’s room. This Mouse Table from ninetonine, for instance, is a playful and practical piece of furniture that would fit into any room of the home.

  1. What a brilliant idea, the “martina” bunkbeds. I’m particularly loving the stairs/file cabinets.

isn’t that genius? I’ve been hunting to see if anything similar is available stateside. I vaguely remember an Ikea Trofast hack too.
